Dr Marcus Schutz was an Executive of the Volkswagen Group for seven years in different strategic and operational functions. In 2003 he was called to Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Ltd. To  conduct the largest turn around initiative of the company’s history as the Director of Strategic Planning and Change Management.

Dr Schutz has over 15 years experience in various industries covering Automotive, High Tech, Mining and Minerals and Defense. Prior to joining Volkwagen he was with The Boston Consulting Group, Bosch and Wardell Armstrong. The successful application of mathematical models in market research made him switch form a scientific background into economics starting at B&L Marktdaten GmbH in Hamburg in 1993. Before that he was working on the modeling of air pollution diffusion, ground water hydrodynamics, civil and military remote sensing and dealt with various mining operations during the early stage of the opening of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe.

His current research interests cover work on the success factor of turn around initiatives in distressed Chinese companies, development models for rural China and other emerging economies as well as the application mathematical modeling techniques in economic forecasting. As an advisor he is active for the Private Equity and Consulting Industry.

As the partner of HCD global, Dr Marcus also works as a executive in-Residence in HKUST.
